Dear Izzy: Week 19

Dear Izzy,

You are asleep right now and although your sleep is hard to come by and I just snuggled you for a straight hour before leaving you to rest and coming out to have some dinner, I already miss you. We have a lot of fun together during our days, even when you are fighting sleep or a bit disgruntled, I just keep on holding you close and we always make it through and share plenty of smiles. During those smiles I think I see some dimples hiding out under your beautiful full cheeks, can't wait to find out if those are here for keeps!

You are up around six in the morning each day and Dad always takes you out for a few minutes of play as I catch some extra Zzzzs before we start our long days together and he heads off to work. You have an amazing Dad, you lucky girl. Each day he heads off to work to provide for our family and then comes home to nurture his ladies, that's me and you. Mama better soak up all the lovin' I can get while you are still little and depending on me for your milk and nurturing because I think as you grow older and become more independent you are going to be just as big of a fan of Dad as I am and I might have to come jump between the two of you to get your attention now and then.

You are still surprising us with your strength and when I talk to your Aunt Karissa she insists I must have brewed you a month longer than I'm admitting to as you are doing similar things as your six week older cousin Moira. I told her you are just trying to keep up so you all can romp around together at the same level when you see each other next, which will happen on our trip in late March when you are nearly six months old. I hope one day you will be the best of friends.

Love you so much my little sweetheart.

Love,

Mama

  1. Oh how I remember those nights of hour long sessions to get my little man to sleep...and then he would wake up 20 minutes later to do it all over again. I promise you it does end and when you look back in a few years time it really doesn't seem as tough as it is right now.

I love the second picture. And how wonderful that you will get to visit with your sister again, I know how much the time you spend with her and her family means to you.

and also, remember back in the days of pre-baby land how awesome it was to have a full 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep? boy did i ever take that for granted, hahaha.

  4. She could not be more adorable- so much character in that little face!

  5. She is quite expressive, but also very curious. Sometimes the way she stares at me and seems to be examining everything really leaves me wondering what she is thinking about.

  6. Ha, I don't even know that I should use the word extra as they are only trying to make up for the hours I didn't sleep at night, but they sure are nice. E has to go out of town for work for three nights soon and I am already missing those minutes of sleep I know will be lost.

  7. They do grow so fast. Also, with Izzy being so large and strong when she was born I feel like we just flew past a lot of that squishy newborn stage much too quickly and I just can't believe she is already nearly four and half months old. I just want to hold her close and keep her tiny a bit longer, but am also really excited to see the person she continues to bloom into. It's such a tricky thing to wrap your mind around.

Ha, I can't even imagine what I would feel like if I had a solid five or six hours in a row. I think I'd probably feel like I was on some kind of high or something. I wouldn't give it up these days for anything, but I definitely could sink into a solid night of sleep with no problem.

  8. That is exactly how it goes around here. I come out to have some supper and lately she wakes up about 20 minutes later. Most of the time E can rock her back to sleep for a spell at that point (and she lets us know if she'd rather me nurse her instead), but lately she mostly just wants to nurse and snuggle Mama.

Oh yes, a visit with my sister is such a wonderful thing to look forward to. It will bring it's own set of obstacles with the four hours of driving (and car riding for Iz) each way, but it will be more than worth it.
